Content
The article covers about an Australian nurse, Deborah Parry who worked in Saudi Arabia. She was convicted of killing her 55 year old colleague, Yvonne Gilford in Dahran Hospital in December 1996. Parry and the other colleague, Lucille McLauchlan, 32 who also convicted in the same case were freed by king Fahd of Saudi Arabia. That is not the finishing of Parry’s case where she has been penalized by Gilford’s brother, Frank about $1.7 million.
The case gave negative perspective to the nursing governing body, the UK Central Council and they hope not to permit Parry from continue her job. On the other hand, the UKCC’s Conduct Committee, Mandy Lavin consider that the case have been settled and any other evidence will not accepted. However, the decision of allowed Parry to remain in the hospital make George Galloway to refer these case to Health Minister, Frank Dobson to ban Parry from working in British Hospital. He added that someone who has been convicted of that crime should not working anywhere in the country.

The article come from The Daily Telegraph newspaper on 22nd September 1998 on page 20, written by Lucie Morris. The article reported was an original event, the murder of an Australian nurse who working in Saudi Arabia.
Audience
The article is intended for people who works in England Hospital. This is to warn them about the reinstatement of Deborah Parry in England Hospital and their hospital would not as secure as before. The article also written for people who often go to England hospital so they will be more careful because crime could happen anywhere including hospital.
Rhetorical function
The article is designed to warn the readers.
Purpose
The purpose of the article is to warn the people who works in England Hospital and people who often go to England hospital about incident occurred involving the convicted killer, a nurse who is allowed to continue her job in a hospital. This is to make them more careful since Parry will come back at the England hospital.
Perspective
The stance taken in the article is condemning the issue of reinstatement of Deborah Parry, the convicted killer who killed her colleague in England Hospital. The writer supports the stance by using George Galloway’s statement, “…someone who has been convicted of an awful murder of her own colleague is a hospital should certainly not be let loose on the hospital wards again…”. The evidence given by the writer strengthen the stance and these will influence the reader support the writer.
In my view, the stance taken is appropriate because someone who has a criminal record should not let to work at the same place. By follow the decision of letting Deborah Parry to continue her job, the UKCC risk the people in England hospital and people who often visits the hospital in danger that the crime will happen again.
The implication of the issue absolutely will realize the people who works in England hospital and people often visits the hospital to be more careful in their work. They maybe will afraid comes to work as Parry still work at the hospital.
Positioning
The article describes Deborah Parry as she is a bad lady. This is indicated by the word use by the writer such as ‘convicted killer’, ‘angle of death killer nurse’ and ‘convicted of an awful murder’. The writer did not use nice word as to gain the reader’s sympathy such as ‘the innocent victim of a terrible injustice’ rather than use harsh word as referred to Parry.
The Director of the UKCC’s Conduct Committee, Mandy Lavin was described as she is disappointed with the decision of reinstatement of Parry. This was proven in her statement “…we’re not going able to get this case to a final hearing…”.
Frank was describes as a foreign person where the writer only give a minor role to him only when penalized Parry, “…waived the death penalty under Saudi law in return for a sum money thought to be about $1.7 million…”. Although it is not a something that can replace his sister, he willing to forgive Parry.
Impact
The effect on readers is likely to be successful especially for gain the reader (the people who work in the English hospital, people who often visit English hospital) support to discriminate Parry when she succeed return in her old job. This was proven when the writer use Ms. Lavin’s statement, “…to see that, angle of death killer nurse returns to warns…”. The way the writer convince the reader is very effective.
Visual literacy
The visual aspect of the article are significant because it influence the perception and stance of the reader. The reader will judge not only by reading the text, but also by the photo. Based on the photo, Parry wears a complete nurse uniform and the symbol created by the uniform, the watch and the pen symbolized Parry is a dedicated nurse and it is hard to believe that she was a murderer. The writer use us bigger font of the headline to stress that the writer’s stance which against Parry. As related to the photo, the headline have different meaning which make the reader think twice whether to believe what they read.
